Non-vented Kitchen fan to Vented

Hey Everyone,
My house was built in the 50's and the kitchen isn't vented above the stove. We are fairly happy with the kitchen as is, but using the recirculating air with an electric stove is one of the things we would like to change.
I am looking to install duct work through the roof (split level home with nothing above the kitchen area, maybe 5 feet from ceiling to outside) and installing a new vent for a gas stove.
Is this something an HVAC company can do or do I need multiple contractors? Will this be too expensive? Anyone have tips?
