Puyo Puyo Tetris II seems like the best direction
Tue May 07, 2019 9:43 pm
Given that Puyo Puyo Tetris is the first title to reach international popularity upon initial release, I think SEGA's best move for our puzzle pals is to do a direct sequel to the game. What could change to make this sequel even better than the original smash hit?
A few things: the 24-character limit should effectively end... in that we have 24 Puyo characters in addition to the Tetris characters. Who'd come? To fill the 24 characters, Ally, Ms. Accord, Lidelle, Yu & Rei, Lagnus, Harpy, and Serily should join the fun. On the Tetris side, we could possibly add some new faces, or even glean some over from games like Tetris Monsters, as a sort of crossover.
The story mode could have a similar "everyone gets a chapter" system to the first game, albeit with diverging chapter paths to experience more matches.
Possibly also a Chronicle-like Quest/Skill Battle mode, to satiate the hole left by Chronicle never being exported. Complete with little boss fights against Onion Pixy, Donguri Gaeru, Chico, Popoi, Raffisol, Doppelganger Arle, Dapper Bones, and the Quest characters added in Champions. In addition to Tsu and Fever, maybe we can see rulesets like Sun, Yon, and 7 return?
And in the most daring move of all... why just Tetris? Could we have SEGA's other puzzle games join in on the fun? Like Columns?
