Knowing the basics of Puyo Chains: Stairs
Thu Feb 22, 2018 11:06 pm
Sometimes, it takes some skills to make stairs, but with practise, making stairs is easy.
First of all, you need to land the different colour puyos separately, then you will need to join in the same colour by landing the puyo on the other with the same colour, make sure you drop the other colour puyo to a side like this:
Then, you would need to place a puyo which points left or right away one puyo, but above the columns. However, this applies as leaving the other colour puyos away (if possible, land the other puyo to the same colour column or keep that puyo away somewhere) like this:
Try doing the same as you create even more stairs beyond. If you want the trigger the chain, just add the puyo to the same 3 colour puyos and watch how the chain goes like this:
It's not sometimes the same pattern you will get, but if you manage to learn the stairs, you can create it with ease.
That's how you create the stairs pattern! Now, try those chains through the game, it may help you to win the game. Have fun!

But someday, you might be good enough to make a stair chain like this one in a real battle! https://puyonexus.com/chainsim/image/quvuo.png

2, 0, 1:
Same as 1, 0, 2; but different.
First, you place a red puyo under a green puyo.
Next, you place 2 red puyos on the green puyo.
Place a red puyo on 2 red puyos and place a green one on the 2nd column. Green Puyo is now your trigger.
Place a blue puyo on a green puyo then place a green puyo on a blue puyo.
Then, place a green puyo on a green puyo, place a blue puyo next to a green puyo. Blue Puyo is now your trigger.
Finally, you place 2 blue puyos, then you make a 3 chain Sandwich!
1, 2, 1:
First, place a red puyo under a green puyo.
Next, place a green puyo on 2 red puyos. Green Puyo is your first trigger.
Place the green puyo under the blue puyo.
Then, place the green puyo on the blue puyo. Blue Puyo is now your trigger.
Finally, place 2 blue puyos then you make the 3 chain Sandwich!
Mixed Sandwich:
Main:
3, 0, 1 and 1, 0, 3:
To switch between 2-1-1 and 1-1-2 form, you'll need to use 1-0-3 and 3-0-1 Sandwich.
1-0-3:
First, place 2 green puyos next to a red puyo.
Next, place 2 red puyos on a green puyo.
Then, place a red puyo on 2 red puyos, place a green puyo on a green puyo.
Finally, place a blue puyo on a green puyo.
Now you have 1-0-3 Sandwich!
Trigger your blue puyos to make a 3 chain.
This how look like this:
3-0-1:
First, place 2 red puyos.
Next, place a green puyo on 2 red puyos.
Place a red puyo on a red puyo, place a green puyo on the 5th column.
Then, place a blue puyo on a green puyo.
Finally, you place a green puyo on a green puyo.
Now you have 3-0-1 Sandwich!
Trigger your blue puyos to make a 3 chain.
This how look like this:
Both 3, 0, 1 and 1, 0, 3 (Original Mixed Sandwich):
1-0-3 and 3-0-1 can also switch into each other, but not into themselves.
The highlighted red Puyo in the above picture only comes into contact with one color: green. Now, let's take a look at 1-0-3 form.
The highlighted red Puyo comes into contact with '''TWO''' colors: blue AND green. This can create a problem if you lay out your colors in the wrong order. Take a look at the following chain. There isn't really a way to efficiently continue the chain unless you know Turukame Which you don't. Yet.
Alternative Mixed Sandwich:
You can make this chain by using all types of sandwich.
2, 0, 1:
Same as 1, 0, 2; but different.
First, you place a red puyo under a green puyo.
Next, you place 2 red puyos on the green puyo.
Place a red puyo on 2 red puyos and place a green one on the 2nd column. Green Puyo is now your trigger.

Lesson 3: Intro to Competitive Puyo Puyo
Sending nuisance to your opponents:
You can make the chain to send nusiance to your foes.
After sending nusiance, the garbage puyos will slowly fall down.
Losing:
If you reach with 8 rows, a pinch music will active.
If you fill up the 3rd or 4th column (Fever version), your game is over.
Popping Puyos when in normal state, popping Puyos when losing, making chains, making an All-clear:
But don't lose! You will pop 4 puyos on the same color.
You can also make a chain.
When all puyos are cleared, the all-clear will appear.
If you pop 4 puyos when All-clear, you will send 30 nusiance puyos (1 rock).
Counter Rule.
All the garbage was sending to you, but don't worry! You will make the chain.
In all Puyo games starting with Puyo Puyo 2, you can set off your own chain to offset, or counter, garbage that's about to fall on you. If your chain is a lot bigger than your opponent’s, you can send the overflow back at him! If you find this mechanic unfamiliar, that’s because Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine and Kirby’s Avalanche were clones of Puyo Puyo 1, which didn’t have a counter rule.

Lesson 4: The second floor
Stairs is really easy to learn, but if you don’t know how to transition, the most you’ll be getting is a ~5-chain. To make chains bigger than 5, you’ll need to make a Transition.
But what exactly is a Transition? Well, first you need to understand the concept of floors.
In order to make big chains, you’ll have to chain in layers, or floors. Basically, you have one chain on the first floor and another chain on top of that chain. A Transition refers to the Puyo that connect your top chain to the bottom chain at the wall.
Stairs transition :
The Stairs transition can actually be one of the more complicated ones to learn. But I think that once you get this down, everything else is a snap to learn. So let’s get started. First, let’s look at a chain that doesn’t have a transition yet.
To set off this chain, we'd need a Red-Green piece to put in Column 1. So we will have 6-chain.
But what if... we used the Blocking Method on top of the reds?
Now all you have to do is keep extending off the yellows!
Building the Stairs Transition:
Of course, Transitioning is easier said than done. Your Transition is actually one of the weakest points in your chain because it requires a lot of Puyo of certain colors, of certain amounts, in a certain order. The rule of thumb is to wait until the game gives you most the pieces you need all at once (pay attention to the NEXT Window!). However, if you need the transition done right away, there are two things you can do: (1) build the transition in the wall column before you build the surrounding columns, or (2) waste a few Puyo to make it easier. (Waste Puyo?? Blasphemy!! Well, it’s not as bad as it sounds.)
Option 1: Build the Wall Column First
Let’s say you have this...
...but the game gives you really bad colors.
Sure, you have a transition. But now you can’t even access it. Instead, you should wait until you get pieces that allow you to build the wall-column really high and then start extending.
Option 2: Waste a Few Puyo
Essentially, the problem presented in the above section was about overcoming the height differences between columns. If you really aren’t getting the pieces you want, you can ”waste” a few Puyo to prop up your transition so that it’s higher than the other columns.
Color Conflicts:
Color conflicts occur when certain groups of Puyo pop other groups when you don’t want them to. The Stairs transition has one major color conflict that you need to watch out for:
At first glance, that really looked like it was gonna work, huh? When you make the Stairs transition, you have to pay special attention to the colors you choose for the first floor. '''Column 1 and Column 3 can NOT be the same color!'''
Sandwich transition:
The Sandwich Transition is actually easier to build than the Stairs Transition. Just like with Stairs, you need a column that goes straight up. But thanks to Sandwich's structure, you don't have to do any crazy color counting. It's much more straightforward.
There is still one thing you need to watch out for. For one, the transition and the Sandwich in Column 2 can "NOT" be the same color.
If you have a column-incorrection, you will put a nusiance puyo on.
... Unless you do this:
If you want to chain on the second floor, you should keep using Sandwich.
Third floor:
Same as 2nd floor, but different. They have more floors.
The third floor is the final floor. But, be careful "NOT" to caught into X.
